The use of force by police officers, especially in urban areas against minorities, has been increasing tremendously. The website for the National Institute of Justice states at least seventy five percent of minorities have been physically or verbally abused by police offers. According to the New York Penal Code Section 35.30, it states a police officer is allowed to use physical force in a numerous amount of situations. The justifications of a police using physical force are as follows: 1) to make an arrest 2) to prevent an escape from custody, and 3) if an officer reasonably believes he or she must act in self-defense for their selves or to defend a third person from an attack. Although, all of these reason are understandable I believe that it will never be an expectable reason for police to abuse their power.
